I was watching TV this morning and saw a commercial for Ford. I have seen these commercials basically my entire life and I never thought to stop and analyze what this advertisement was arguing to its audience. The commercial portrayed a Ford F150 trekking through the mud and other rough terrain, then at the end they boldly stated that their product was "The Best in Texas". I realized that they were trying to appeal to a dominantly male audience that would be interested in owning a vehicle that can easily roll through mud and travel up mountains, and that they would want the best truck available. This commercial was making the argument that if you are interested in being a man's man and having a cool truck you should buy a Ford, and the warrant is that you should do this because Ford is the best in Texas. If I ever own a truck (which I doubt), I guess I'll buy a Ford because who wouldn't want the best truck in Texas?
